Sujay Tadwalkar just might be the best O-Week advisor you could ever wish for. Philosophy major by day, electrical engineering major by night, tabla player on the weekends, he is a modern day renaissance man, and he can tell you all about the beliefs of that time period too. He can take a Shakespeare reference and turn it into a pun involving Spongebob with great skill, and you’ll be groaning for days every time you think about it. He can regale you with tales of his Californian escapades, all filled with excitement, boba tea, and even more puns. He can peer into the depths of the philosophy of Descartes, Nietzsche, Hume, and many other great philosophers, all while making still more puns. Pretty much, Sujay just really loves puns. Whether it be Frozen, Laplace transforms, or Kendrick Lamar, Sujay can talk to almost anyone about almost anything, and with him as your advisor there will never be a dull moment.

Amber “Ber” “BerWang” “Wangutan” “Wangsohard” “Creative” Wang is probably the reincarnation of Sacagawea because she’s the best leader this side of the Mississippi.  To be an interpreter and guide for Lewis and Clark must have taken someone with a strong personality, a charismatic demeanor, and an extremely friendly disposition. This is why Ber is most definitely probably Sacagawea. You may never meet someone as kind and warm hearted as Amber and she will show it each and every day. She is never shy and routinely talks to random people around campus just to get to know them. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone that knows as many faces around this campus as Amber.  This is most likely a product of Amber’s involvement in various organizations such as Design For America and Lovett’s CC (Voted best Birthday poster creator). Like Sacagawea, Amber is a very skilled artist who can draw/paint/laser-cut just about anything you can imagine. Creativity is practically her middle name (see above), and she will show it every day.  This Mechanical Engineer out of Katy, Texas (same place Sacagawea was born) is the most fun, spontaneous, and down-to-earth person you may ever meet.. Whether it’s a strange guttural noise, a well-timed “flop”, or a playful “tee-hee”, Amber tends to put a smile on everyone around. Get ready to be guided by one of the best Rice has to offer.

If you’re reading this because you’re a member of the “Bob Toastas” O-Week Group, that means Darcy Curtis is part of your Advising Team. Congratulations! If you haven’t already done so, now would be a good time to jump up and down and shout in celebration because Darcy is one of the funniest, craziest, and sweetest girls I know. Hailing from the great city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was a stud of a cross country runner in high school, this Biochemistry major likes pina coladas and getting caught in the rain (but actually). She’s fun and fashionable, a fierce lover of One Direction and T-Swift (as shown by the collage of their faces on her wall), and aspires to adopt a teacup pig as soon as possible. Darcy is supportive, caring, and a great advice giver, making her perfect for her role as Lovett College’s newest Rice Health Advisor, always available to save the day in times of crisis, no matter how big or small. I’m so proud to call Darcy my close friend and I know that she’s going be a fantastic part of your Advising Team. Get excited to meet her, because she’s ecstatic to meet you!

“Ohhh Tsay can you C?” Although Francis Scott Key has been given credit for writing America’s national anthem, Taiwanese-American Calvin Tsay’s ancestors had written this lyric to give a heads up to the Rice community about their future great-great-great-great grandson.  Always helpful and (almost) always funny, Calvin is known campus-wide for his warm personality and freakishly good looks (he’s eye-candy for the ladies and a lesson on fashion for the gents).  When he’s not killing it on the Rec center basketball courts, he’s going ham in the classroom and in lab as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major. This Plano, Texas native knows everything about sports and how to make people smile, even if it means he has to tell a corny joke or two. Or three. (And sometimes even four). Whenever you’re feeling hungry or in the mood to watch a Mavericks game, Calvin’s your go-to guy. Outside of Rice’s hedges, Calvin is a Houston-expert and knows all the exotic (and scrumptious!) restaurants and late night hot-spots. Whether Calvin is repping his hometown teams in swagged out Dallas gear or crossing people over at the Rec, Calvin knows how to have a good time. One-third heartthrob, one-third Rec-center basketball star, and one-third genius, Calvin Tsay is 100% amazing. So, get excited to share your O-Week and Rice experience with Calvin because like it or not, he is going to be a great friend and make you love Rice University!
