The BobslEdgars: Go for the gEOLd

One thing you’ll quickly notice about Miss Alex Mardock is that she’ll laugh at rather awkward times. And she won’t tell you what she’s laughing about unless you pester her about it, and this is with good reason. Because usually, what she’s laughing about is pretty dang lame.  And you’ll tell her how lame she is and she will agree with you 100%. But the best part is that Alex is one of the least lame people I know; she’s witty and smart and fun-loving and adventurous and absolutely terrific. Need someone to relax and eat cookie dough with? Not only will Alex join you, she’ll bully you into eating significantly more cookie dough than any human should eat in a single sitting. Need an English-àFrench translator? She’s got you covered. Same goes for if you need a band-aid or medicine for a headache; Alex serves as one of Lovett’s RHA’s, so she’s all about making sure the residents of our fabulous college are healthy and happy. Alex lives for the little things, and she can put a positive spin on just about anything. Seriously, she actually appreciated the irony of the fact that she could not attend the Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival because she tore her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). She takes pride in “baffling” the health center by being sick so terribly often. So get ready for an incredible O-Week, because with Alex as your advisor, you’re already set up to have a fantastically lame adventure.

You’d be surprised that this classy Brit doesn’t have an English accent, but that is the only disappointing thing about her. Laura Thomas is an adorable Lovetteer with an infectious laugh and deadly skills when challenged to Magic Card battles. This rising senior is an amazing artist with the sweetest disposition and an intense love for Game of Thrones. Her super power would have to be her uncanny ability to wear shorts during rain, sleet, or snow and she will definably wow you with her vast knowledge of Pokemon. Nothing can express how lucky you could be to have Laura as an Advisor, and I hope you have the opportunity to grow close to this amazing woman.

If you’re ever lost or need directions, Rishi Suresh definitely isn’t the person to go to. However, if you ever need a reliable and trustworthy friend or some fatherly advice, he’s certainly your guy! Born in Mobile, Alabama, “Baby Rishi” grew up in Houston, Texas where he was an avid debater throughout high school and now pursues his pre-medical passions at Rice as a Biochemistry major.  Although he’s very studious, Rishi is also quite involved across campus. He’s a singer in Rice’s South Asian a cappella group, “Basmati Beats”, where he graces the people of Rice with the sweet sounds of his stellar vocal cords belting out Indian-American Fusion songs. This connoisseur of the finest pizza and ice cream also serves as Lovett College’s Food Representative, where he conveys student feedback to the servery staff to make sure the food is great. From the sweet sounds that come out of his mouth to his academic brilliance, his level-headed rationality to his quirky sense of humor,  Rishi was a fantastic O-Week brother and is a great friend and I know he’ll be just as great with his own group this year!

Better looking than Hope Solo and Michael Phelps’ super human child, faster than Usain Bolt riding a horse, and cooler than the Jamaican Bobsled team, Vaughan Andrews wins the gold for the being the best advisor ever.  When he’s not designing robotic humans as a Senior Bioengineer, you might find him strategically ousting the opponent in Settlers of Catan, pwning newbs in Halo, or whipping up a delicious meal with his mad cooking skills.  Though normally cool, calm, and caring, Vaughan transforms into a beast a.k.a. “Adrenaline Vaughan” anytime he’s watching the Redskins or playing soccer, football, and volleyball.  Lucky for you, the only thing this Colorado outdoorsman loves more than TV (he has watched the Friends series 7 times) is an adventure, so strap on your seatbelts, because its gunna be a wild ride.
